Past Events

Through the years we have had so much love and support from friends and family.  We THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts for all your time and effort in putting together events to continue to have hope for Gavin. Listed are just a few of our past events.

Miles of Madness for Gavin: Year 3

It’s been three years since I joined the battle against Tay-Sach’s disease.  I vowed to raise awareness and to find a cure by starting “Miles of Madness for TSD Awareness” back in 2011.

Tay-Sach’s Disease  (TSD) is a fatal genetic disorder that causes progressive destruction of the central nervous system resulting in the early death of children.  Even with the best care, most children with TSD die early in childhood, usually by the age of 5 (source CTSF).

Yoga for Hope

Gavin's Yoga Fundraising Event last week was amazing! Janice Sherman from Yoga Gal led the event with an abundance of inspiration. There was so much love, support, and hope from the community, family and friends. We were also able to raise more awareness and $1000 for The Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation. We will all keep fighting as the TSD battle ain't over yet. Hang in there my son and to all brave warriors who keep fighting to breathe; and to those who have earned their wings, we will keep fighting in honor of you. Namaste!

Miles of Madness for Gavin: Year 2

Dear Friends,

A year ago, I started "Miles of Madness for TSD awareness,” where I matched your generous donations with mileage and gratification (1 mile per $1 donation) to help raise awareness and find a cure for Tay-Sachs disease. Inspired by your generosity and Gavin’s courage, I was able to finish a series of marathons, my first 50K ultra marathon, and a 50-mile bike ride. This year, I pledged to go for more.

Golf for Gavin: Year 2!

My story isn't as spectacular as many of my super triathlete friends.  I'm an ordinary working guy trying to challenge my athletic abilities (or being nuts) but most importantly wanting to make a difference in someones life. I will be running a series of races: 25K trail races, marathons, an Ultra Marathon, and eventually, a triathlon.  I've joined a few triathlon clubs to help me train for my races and volunteer on their various causes during my free time.  However, none of those races compare to the battle that a little boy named Gavin is facing right now.

Arge, as she is commonly known and her BFF Mich, wanted to contribute to this great cause and raise more funds to find a cure for Gavin. A percentage of sales usually goes to the consultant, but from September thru November 13, 2010 (Gavin's birthday), ALL profits made will be donated to Gavin's cause. A Night of Hope for Gavin - Aug. 20, 2010

Gavin’s major fundraiser, “A Night of Hope for Gavin” was truly a success which took place on Friday, August 20th, 2010 at the Hensley’s Flying Elephant Pub & Grill located in Carlsbad, California. We were so overwhelmed and overjoyed with all the positive energy and support from all the people gathered at the venue who were all there to support Gavin. It was amazing to see lots of beautiful signs with Gavin’s picture on it and all the many people wearing “Hope for Gavin” T-shirts and bracelets. The crowd was in silence with tears and emotion as they saw an 8 minute video made by Don Rayner which captured a glimpse of what Tay Sachs Disease is and how we care for Gavin on a daily basis. The crowd was also moved by the pictures of Gavin and Bella and our family, that was photographed by my cousin’s husband, Patrick Bondoc. Thank you to ALL for your support!

Giving Back Christmas Card Drive

Joanna Redington from Illinois, Jannelle's cousin, sponsored a "Christmas Card Fundraising Drive" to support Gavin and The Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation. Pls. view some of the cards that were created from all over the world. This project raised $1100 – not bad for a quick project. Thank you to everybody who participated in our Christmas Card Drive for Gavin – to all those who donated their handmade cards, to all those who bought them, and to all those who made a monetary donation.

Social Awareness

In the weeks prior to the"Night of Hope" event, friends and family made it a point to help bring awareness to this deadly disease. This was done by changing profile pictures and posting links all over their walls with Gavin's picture. As much as there has been monetary support, educating the public one step at a time has grown slowly but surely. Most have never heard about the disease until now. News articles have been posted on various local news websites. Gavin is the first Filipino documented case of Tay-Sachs in San Diego.
