It’s been three years since I joined the battle against Tay-Sach’s disease. I vowed to raise awareness and to find a cure by starting “Miles of Madness for TSD Awareness” back in 2011.
Tay-Sach’s Disease (TSD) is a fatal genetic disorder that causes progressive destruction of the central nervous system resulting in the early death of children. Even with the best care, most children with TSD die early in childhood, usually by the age of 5 (source CTSF).
Not Gavin Marquez, he is eight years old, and strong with no sign of slowing down! Obviously, young Gavin is no stranger to battling adversity and trials. He has taught us how to be brave and to believe, even when it feels like we’re about to be defeated. He is doing what others said he could not.
Gavin and his family are truly an inspiration. They always remind me that anything is possible and never to lose hope. I’m ready to take on bigger and better challenges. Today, Gavin continues to battle this rare disease, which day by day takes a toll on his cognitive and motor function. There is no known cure or treatment, and research is underfunded. Your donation is one step closer to funding research and finding a cure for this fatal disease.
I’m inspired By Gavin, and want to inspire others to “get up and do something.” Please help us continue to find a cure. It is within reach.
I will match every 1 dollar donated with mileage and gratification. ($1 = 1mi of swim, bike, or run)
