It’s Day 16 in the PICU at children’s hospital. Although Gavin has been showing some progress post extubation, he is needing more time for recovery especially from being intubated and heavily sedated. Today he is running a fever and his white blood cells are slowly elevating again . The attending physician feels he is not ready to go home anytime soon . It’s so emotional and I’m getting very anxious because I just want Gavin to come home so we can take him out to see the sun and smell the fresh air by the beach. I can’t wait for Gavin to get back to his holistic routine. Thank God for my parents, good friends, co-workers, and neighbors who have extended their arms to reach out and help us during this difficult time. Audrey is doing fine and such a resilient daughter. Ferd and I are hanging in there and doing our best to stay strong; luckily, there are several CPY yoga studios near the hospital that I attend daily while Ferd still hits the gym nearby when he can. All Ferd and I want is for Gavin to come home and be comfortable. Any type of major surgery is out of the question. If Gavin’s lungs look better and he is able to maintain good oxygenation even with the help of oxygen, then we’ll push to bring him home. But for now, Gavin just needs extra time to recover. This morning, I whispered into Gavin’s ear and said, “son, if you want to fight, keep on fighting, but if you are tired, it’s ok too.” Please continue to pray for our Spider-Man warrior for a speedy recovery.
